Last Saturday, I participated in the Helldorado parade as "Grand Poobah" of my Masonic Lodge. It was fun! So, I got to thinking: what if we participate in the parade next year, as "Nevada Open Carry Movement", or "Supporters of the Second Ammendment" ? We'd be open carrying, of course...

Sounds like fun. Get a bunch of gun folks out with bright white cowboy hats.

As a matter of fact, I propose that the open-carry movement be officially called the "White Hats," with the state name, such as "Nevada White Hats," "Arizona White Hats," etc. If the hoplophobes are going to call us "cowboys," let's turn that around on them by being the GOOD cowboys . . .which leaves only one part for them to play.

Also get a small group wearing burglar-clown suits, marching with a banner "Burglar Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence -- against criminals!""and running around screaming "It just ain't safe to be a crook around here, when all the good guys have GUNS!"

Maybe even get a handcart carrying Eddie Eagle signs and comic books to hand out to the kids.

If we do something like that it would have to be along the lines of a second amendment parade, and try to get as many local gun groups on board. OCDO doesn't quite has the personnel to make a significant presence.

I would be interested in doing this, I agree it would be better if we could get several groups together (on the same page) OCDO, NV Shooters, Vegas Shooters... One thing I have noticed though is that there are many gun owners that are just not on board with "Open Carry" it is sad but true.

I for one am PRO Second Amendment, I don't care if it is NO BLUE CARDS, OPEN CARRY, CONCEALED CARRY, or Any other gun rights, I SUPPORT IT FULLY!!

I can remember being on Fremont street as a kid, during Helldorado events.. Damn near everyone had their six-guns strapped on.. including me with my double rig cap guns. lol.. More than a few white hats on back then, too.

About time that returned to normal situation at even mundane daily routines. :)

GREAT idea! I'm in for a parade presence; this will go a long way toward improving image with local merchants, LEO's, and maybe even get some casinos to loosen up. The trash pickups are quite useful (and fun) but this annual event raises it to another level.

We and other local groups could walk or ride on a float (truck, buckboard, whatever could be arranged). We could each carry promo signs, and wave Gadsden and American flags. With a year to plan, we ought to come up with some catchy signs ... favorite quotes, spiffy sayings (anti-Gillespie?).

I love the white hat idea, which is great for tying into the parade theme. It's like roses in the Rose Parade. For starters, I'll commit to ordering a dozen white T-shirts with the OC logo, and at least a few flags.

How do you think the NRA would feel about sponsoring a group effort each year? Something like they'd coordinate and front a float, with appropriate credits banners. Whoever gets to be in charge should give 'em a call first thing?

So, who's jazzed enough to volunteer as ramrod for the parade project? I'm up for assisting, but I'm new to Nevada (see my join date) and think it would be better to have a lead person with more invested in the traditions and who maybe knows people who count. Volunteer(s) please raise your banana :celebrate.

Edit: probably have to just wear empty holsters, although we'd of course try hard to get approval to carry properly.

The OC cards on zazzle.com would be great to hand out to the crowds. I saw several groups giving out pamphlets. I bet this would generate a lot of website traffic.

Possible parade signs:

A man with a gun is a citizen.
A man without a gun is a subject.

I carry a gun because a Cop is too heavy.

No good can happen when criminals and the government are the only ones armed.
