Is Dayton a firearm restricted city?

My Son in law and I went to Sportsman warehouse to look around. They had a Savage .308 that caught his eye and decided to buy it. He gave them his Ohio CCW and Ohio driver license. About 30 minutes later, the salesman came back with a paper saying he could not buy the rifle due to him living in Dayton! All other cities were not on a "List" that the showed him. Only Dayton.
Can someone please explain what happened, or was it because of the recent shooting?

WOW!!!! Not true. Local government has no authority to make ANY gun laws. What store said that. Ohio Revised Code 9.68 prohibits local governments from regulating firearms.

I bet they are looking at an ATF book that is out of date.

They showed us a print out showing that is was illegal for a person living in the city limits of "Dayton" to buy, sell, transfer, etc.. any long gun and to transport it across State lines. It might have been an ATF paper, but I didn't see anything on the header. They just showed us that he couldn't buy it.

Previous listed ATF P 5300.5 and other references i listed/posted have been deleted & while they are still a current part of the ATF/FFL's compliance mandates, but upon spirited discussion...they are/could be, in some cases, significantly outdated and will & can lead FFLs, as well as laypersons astray.
