well I am wondering if there is any reasion I can't carry at the fair. I drove down here from Utah and have a Utah permit. I am origanaly from WA and I'm here to visit the family and we are going to the fair. I read the pamphlet and did not see it as a place I could not carry. I did notice that the state gave the right for guns to be baned from stadiums and convention centers. I would not consider the fair ether of them. And from what I get is that city's can't inforce gunlaws higher then what the state alowes. so I'm wondering what leg I have to stand on if thy tell me I can't carry? thanks, also what I'm carrying is a 45 colt vaquero so its perfect for the fair :)

I concur. This appears to be a county ran/funded fair [Website], so it should be subject to RCW 9.41.290. You may want to call the county and ask who owns the fair grounds, I would assume that is also the county as which they should have no further arguments.

I am not a lawyer, all facts should be personally verified.

I wonder if the Benton County farigrounds here are ran by the county on County land. I would think they would be subject to state pre-emption.

Nice way to have someone else look it up for you :p

From the [website] (which does not have too much information):
  • It appears the contact information is a county email address
  • The website WHOIS lookup seems to be a private person
  • The grounds are called 'Benton County Fairground' (sounds county owned)

Not enough public information to tell. I would call the county and ask who owns the land. Verify all facts independently.

---------------------------------
Edit:

Seems it may be private. there is a new website [link]. Contact information is all private and guest services indicates no weapons.

I contacted Lori Lancaster she says it is leased and they are a 50133 not for profit company (We all know how nobody profits from a fair), and they pay $48 an hour for each security person, approximatly 70. Sheeple said that it is a family event with children and there is no need for firearms at their fair. If found to have a firearm you will be stopped by fair security.
Policies

Policies: The following items are prohibited on the fairgrounds: alcohol, weapons, bicycles, skateboards, inline skates, roller skates, motorized vehicles and pets. Backpacks & bags are subject to search.
Refunds: Will not be issued for any reason.
Pets: Please leave your pets at home. Only service dogs and animals entered into exhibits and/or Dock Dogs competition at the Fair are allowed on the Fairgrounds.

This is from our police blotter, It must be the reason that the law abiding public is asked not to carry a firearm at the fairgrounds.

CAT

CAT had two detectives with the fair gang suppression team. Eleven gang members were escorted out of the fair for gang attire and one arrest was made for warrants and false reporting. Several gang members were at the fair in non gang clothes, and did not cause any problems.

Gotta go to work dont have time to research any more at this time.

I can't speak for that particular fair, but I OC'd at the Thurston County fair if that helps. I BS'd with members of the SWAT team, and the didn't say squat.

I'm still just not getting this family/children vs firearms antithesis the anti's are always falling back on. "But there are children!" .... but what?? Can someone please explain it to me?

You didn't know that guns are evil and like to jump out of their holster and shoot little kids all by themselves? :banghead:

Seriously, those kinds of comments about family outings and guns not being needed are just asinine. I carry mine to protect my family regardless of where we are.

For them, the state is a god. The god told them their whole lives that guns are bad unless the person wielding them wears a god-issued uniform. They believe that there is no place and no time where you need a gun. If not because of children, for some other made up reason; too windy, too hot, too cold, etc. They use "children" as a rhetorical shield. This is also the reason guns aren't allowed in school. Government schools are a species of secular temple. It's like taking an issue of Playboy to church with you.

well I had fun at the fair today. I concealed just today so I could get a bead on any signes or other no wepons signes. All seemed free and clear until we went to the agriculture building, where thy have all the veggeys and frutes on display. we walked in and looked around and on the way out my aunt pointed to a huge sign saying weapon free zone, it was a gun crossed out. so now I'm wondering that can't be legal and thinking I should question the people incharge. being that I live in Utah I am use to questioning such miss leading postings. so I was hoping that maybe I can do a bit of good while I'm here in my child hood town.

Informational note since your from out of town (not sure of law in your state). No firearm and no weapon signs do not hold water in this state. You still must be asked to leave by an agent of the property before you can be traspassed.

If this land is owned by the county and is not a school (or other restricted location) then the sign would likely be a violation of rcw 9.41.290 and should be removed.

Sheeple said that it is a family event with children and there is no need for firearms at their fair.

So is the fair in Lynden a family event. Based on the number of shootings and other assaults reported a firearm might be considered a requirement when attending.

Send her some news clippings on assaults and shootings at fairgrounds this last month or so. There were several across the country. Not just in Lynden but take a look at the Wisconsin fair attacks on August 4. A mob attacked people as they were leaving.

What makes these "wingnuts" think that "fairs" are some kind of "bliss-land" where nothing bad ever happens. As for "there are kids present", if I recall correctly, the participants in the gunfight at Lynden weren't much more than kids, age wise.

Wow, she gets 70 security guards for $48 per hour...that must be some security (almost sounds like volunteers at lets see $48/70=0.68 That is less than min wage isn't it?)

I'm sorry, but they don't want the "children" to learn that firearms are not a danger, who knows, they may take up shooting as a hobby...horrors...all those signs are useless. They do not have the right to post them, or enforce them...
