Hi all,

I heard the Station Casinos are not open friendly. So why the liberian national convention would be hosted in an anti-gun rights establishment is not kool (imo).

As many of you know, I open carry to keep cops from detaining me for not wearing a helmet (so far so good - no drama). I did a radio show from the convention center yesterday but I made arrangements so I wouldn't have to ride my motorcycle and deal with the fact that I don't have a means to lock up my gun if told by security to get rid of it.

Today, I'm toying with the idea of OC'ing while wearing my professional clothing and riding to the Casino and see what happens.

I don't HAVE to be there today, was just going to help with setting up the equipment. (Got to meet Gary Johnson yesterday.)

Any thoughts?

I will be cohosting a show there tomorrow, Fri 5/4/12, from noon to three (depending on what happens today I may or may not OC that day.

My guess is you will be ok until someone notices from the hotel. Since it is in a ballroom or some similar room it may take a while for someone to notice. It is hard to find carry friendly venues that are large. yet I think with enough work you can arrange it even with places like this that are not. Even the high and mighty all knowing nra holds meeting at anti places for some reason.

No way I would go to the Liberian national convention without a firearm. Since I'm sure you just made an incocent autocorrect mistake here Let me say I probably wouldn't got to the Libertarian national convention unarmed either. :)

An angle to consider:

During the time that the space is rented to the Convention, it is private property under the control of the tenant, not the landlord.

I recently went through this at the Clark County Fair. The Fairgrounds is public land, but the tenant it was rented to was a private corporation (supposedly, I haven't chased this down yet).

When you rent a hotel room, the room is your private property until checkout time.

Bottom Line, if the folks at the Convention are ok with it, you should be able to use that to your benefit. Getting from the parking area into the convention space might be a bit tricky. I guess, if they ask you to leave the casino, you could exit to the private property of the ballroom. :)

And then at the end of the day, exit to the parking lot in the same manner.

A big IANAL on this one, but something to think about.

Just FYI, my girlfriend and I open carried for about 25 minutes there last year. At that point every single security guard in the place descended on us and escorted us out to our car. Have fun at the convention, wish I could go.

Of course, the circumstances are completely different. In your example, a private entity is leasing property to another private entity, whereas we are discussing a public entity leasing to a private entity. I am not so sure the government can absolve itself of its obligations with regards to allowing temporary use of its property. If the Ku Klux Klan rented the space, could they forbid entrance of blacks, Jews, and Catholics to public property? Doubtful.

Yeah, but the first 24 minutes was smooth sailing. ;o)

It's been quite some time since I attended an LP convention (and that was at the state level), but IIRC, any attendee may bring a motion to the floor.

Perhaps someone should move that the LP meetings in the future be held where civil rights are recognized. Even if a venue only temporarily allows OC and CCW, that precedent can perhaps be expanded later, when nothing bad happens the first time.

Neglected to report how it went. I open carried in there. Was holding my laptop on my right arm (like a baby) when a hotel worker opened the door for me to enter (chivalry is not dead) and I attempted not to be nervous. Since the color of my blazer was dark I managed to oc so discretely that the only person that noticed were the ones that I told to look. It was a bit stressful for me to OC that day, I must admit cause I was assisting my Boss and he had told me he preferred I didn't OC. Of course, he was one of the people I told I was oc-ing, right before I left. Was only there for less than an hour. I sat much of the time working on my laptop.

I am a motorcyclist, I am curious, how does OC prevent you from being detained if you ride without a helmet? I would love to shed my helmet some days!

It's just a theory of mine. I've ridden a lot of miles in Nevada with, let's say, "controversial headgear." When the cops see the gun, they typically run my plates and move on to mess with lower hanging fruit. That theory has failed me three times since May.

In May I got a ticket by an LVMPD motorcycle cop that didn't notice my gun until he had already pulled me over. After giving me the ticket he could get out of there fast enough. My spyware caught the entire detainment. The next day I got another ticket from NVLPD. They DID see the gun, but since it was two cops in one car, they felt confident to pull me over, have me put my hands on the bumper of the car and take their sweet time to mess with me.

And last Thursday I got another one by NHP. He was hiding on I-15 four miles from the AZ state line. He was a total *******. I have Utah license plates. If he was a "constitutional oath keeper" he would have given me a warning. Instead, when he asked to see my DL et al, and saw that my name is different than the owner of the bike. He asked who the owner was. I negotiated by asking if I answer all his questions, would he still write me a ticket? He said "Yes." So I said, "Then I'm not talking." I told him I was very disappointed in him and he said, "I don't care what you think." LOL. Way to serve and protect.

That makes a total of seven helmet tickets since I began challenging the law in August 2010. I have NEVER paid a penny for any citation, except for the one ticket I got in California, and I'm still challenging that one.

The idea in my mind is to make it frustrating and cost-consuming for the Metro lobbyists when they get in front of our legislators to plead with them to keep the helmet law.

In retrospect, I still believe that if a lone cop sees an open carrier without a helmet, he will prefer to mess with "lower hanging fruit." I'm just grateful that I now live in Polygamyville, Utah with helmet choice.

You can see more about Nevada's helmet activism on the RepealItOrFee

And check out some of my local Motorcycle "rights" vids here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAD05617E6DB40DCC&feature=view_all

Take care, and hang tight. It won't be long till Nevada riders will be free from helmet bondage!!

My problem is that I am all for abolishing helmet laws altogether, but I'm a lousy activist for that cause, as I still would wear a helmet anyway.

I love your vids though, lawfare folks. Keep em coming. If any of y'all have a court date in NV, put out the word so we can show up as moral support. ("Known associates")

Actually, guys like us that would wear the helmet much of the time make for good activists. When the law is repealed, it provides proof that "choice" does not automatically mean "refusal" as the nannies would like to infer.

I prefer the wind in my hair, and I prefer the much safer greater visibility of no helmet, but I can't stand the wind in my face.

My biggest gripe about helmets is the fatigue. A helmet greatly increases the wind resistance of my head, and causes significant neck pain on long rides.

If you want your brains splattered on the pavement, then go for it I say ... its your choice.

Keep the faith brother!

You must surely wear a helmet while driving an automobile, right? Or are you just speaking out of your ass? Because you obviously know nothing about actual statistics.

At least you recognize it should be a choice.
