The question remains unanswered – as to what training people in Wisconsin need to carry a concealed gun.
After the Legislature approved concealed carry this year, the attorney general recommended four hours of training. On Tuesday, the Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules struck the amount of time.
Co-chair, Republican Assemblyman Jim Ott says it might be wiser to require people to demonstrate certain proficiencies to a certified trainer.
“As far as defining the training based on a number of hours, you know what? You could sit around with somebody for four hours and talk about guns and then say - I trained you for four hours,” Ott said.
Democrats who voted against the change Tuesday expressed concern that there might be no required training in the end.
The matter will head back to the Assembly and Senate for debate. Their original legislation did not define the training requirements.
