My friend carries in a form fitting retention holster, as do I. It does not have a strap. Rest assured, that it is highly unlikely a small child would be able to exert the amount of force required at the exact angle required to extract the gun from the holster.
Just because carriers act calmly and disinterested in unruly children and try to make the best of things doesn't mean we are blissfully unaware of our surroundings.
I hope the business model of Telling the respectful patron with the gun to cover it, check it, or leave works for you, but perhaps you should consider telling the parents of the snot-nosed barefoot kids running in, out and all around of your restaurant to control their kids or leave earlier is worth a try. But hey, its your business and we are just customers.
