Ingles (Dallas, NC)
Went to Ingles in Dallas, NC yesterday. As I was returning my cart, a man approached me with his daughter (she was maybe 14 or 15) and asked if I was LEO or armed forces. I said "No sir, just a law abiding citizen." He then proceeded to ask why I was carrying. All I was able to get out was "With the way things are going..." before he jumped in with "better exercise your rights before they take them away right?" I said I agree'd and he then went on to say that it's nice to see someone of my age (I'm 27 but could easily pass for 19 or 20) publicly fighting for our rights. I said that I wish more people would realize what's happening and take a stand. He said he agree'd. We both went our separate ways with a smile. This was my first really really positive interaction.
Should I have said something different?
Either way, I know for a fact Ingles is a good place to carry. I have carried in there many times and nothing has been said. No signs on the door, and it's American owned. 'MERICA!

I don't see where you did anything wrong. But if you're looking for other stuff to say, you could have turned it over on the guy and asked him why he wasn't carrying.
It is still frustrating to me that so many think that the only people who can carry are government sanctioned.

did a road trip to greensboro and went into northern equipment and the gabby hayes looking sales person took a gulp and swallowed hard but didnt stare too hard or keep his distance.
gander mountain in morrisville is still a great place to OC and did manage to chat up a older customer who was looking for 'advice' on his first pistol purchase and the sales person behind the counter was leading the gentleman down the primrose path...
sorry WW, et al., interjected my self into the conversation and managed to get him to think about taking a basic firearm class before he plunges his money into a firearm he might not like or use and then be resentful over the purchase. it was gratifying tho to have sales person say thanks for the info as apparently they are not permitted to divert a customer to a training class but rather just concentrate on sales.
and they had the particular ammo i was looking for and they allowed me to buy 10 individual boxes of my off caliber so i was truly pleased.

Oced for the first time in a year. It's been that long since I've been home i guess went to gamestop in huntersville, not even sure anyone noticed i was carrying there tbh hah. Bout to go to cvs right down the road from me well see what happens but i dont expect any problems.

Nothing wrong with that, but we had a thread where the OP's wife interjected herself into a disagreement between the boyfriend and his GF, and interrupted the sales pitch of the salesmen. The OP then went on to insult the salesperson and the BF. There is a difference between sticking a nose in and politely offering suggestions.
In other words the BF, and sales opinion were counter to his wife's and she stuck her nose in. I would have kicked them out if it was my business. Not to mention that IMO she was wrong in advising a first time gun owner to go with the biggest gun she could, instead of the most practical.

Open carried for the first time today. Went to McDonalds, Lowes, and Walmart, all in West Jefferson around 6:30pm. Not a single problem.
I was out with my kids at a park in the Southern Pines area today. My 8 year old found a homemade "pipe" (unused) on the equipment somewhere. I took it to a city cop that just happened to be in the parking lot. He got out and looked around a little bit and talked to my buddy and I for a minute or two. He left without saying a word about my sidearm.
was leaving the lowes in goldsboro when a mature, full bearded, well dressed in expensive cowboy boots and leather vest stopped me and asked if i got in trouble OC'g in the area...
while he has his CHP he has not OC'd so we had a good conversation and as we completed our conversation, he was directed to to the forum...

drove up to Raleigh to D&L Parts http://www.dlpartsco.com/ to get a couple replacement parts for the dishwasher that decided to break last night. determined they had the parts so toddled up...walked up to the door and on a piece of paper taped to one of the glass panes was a sign stating:
NO WEAPONS, we don't care if you have a permit or not
so i turned around back to my vehicle and called Glenn the 'regional manager for eastern NC" and advised him to tell his counter person i would not be picking up the parts we discussed. when Glenn asked why i told him. he told me he was sorry but to stow the weapon under the seat...i pointed out that is how the majority of firearms are stolen in NC so i would pass. told him i would be calling someone in the Charlotte corp headquarters and he just said fine.
Called Corp and talked to Dave who answered the phone and asked to speak to someone about their no firearm policy...'it is a corp policy, right?' yes and then i was summarily disconnected from the conversation.
so a letter is speeding to the owner of the 16 location organization, Ralph Brackett, about their mandated GFZ...i'll see what or if i get anything back.
thanks to modern technology i found another appliance parts place close by...CASHWELL and visited their business. while a little apprehensive of returning to goldsboro w/o my dishwasher parts i quickly looked at their door for any indication they also established a GFZ and not finding anything, entered...was greeted by a young man who didn't hesitate to begin the search for my parts...
then to my surprise another counter person, Trey, walked out OC'g a XD...whew. we chatted for a bit and Trey was provided the link to the forum...
guess who is getting my appliance business from now on...Ms Susan Cashwell Renegar, CEO is getting a nice letter as well.

Great report, solus. I still practice OC around Cabarrus County, but it is a small place and I've been just about everywhere.

SOLUS. I found out that Buffalo Wild Wings and the Carolina Ale House here in J'Ville don't allow carry of any sorts either. I called and also talked to both managers with no avail.

The original NC statutes prohibited carrying firearms within any area where alcoholic beverages were served and consumed but the NC General Assembly provided relief as these statutes were revised effective 1 Oct 2013.

Solus i carry too but since I've been broke (just out of the military waiting on best buy to re hire me) i haven't been going many places. No one wants to constantly hear "went to cvs smoked in the parking lot" twelve times lol
sounds like the NC membership needs to contribute some chantix, nicoderm patches, and some counseling so you could quit spending your precious money on smokes but rather on bullets so we can go shooting!!
'sides if you continue to hang out in cvs parking lots someone might consider you an escort trying to hook up, which you truly don't want as i hear the money is horrible and the job sucks! :uhoh:
