Alas returning home this past Saturday up N 95 where the average speed was 'a bit' above posted speed w/frequent stops due to congestion caused by stupid drivers... 25 miles from turn off of 95 towards home, cruising peacefully, bumper to bumper, near the 'speed' limit when i saw the vehicles about a mile up the road start to brake...so i backed off from the bumper ahead of me and I started slowing and increasing my distance with, as is my custom, 4 ways on to let everyone behind me know we are not slowing but appear to be stopping!
stopped with sufficient room from the bumper ahead...
unfortunately the lass behind me failed to stop at +/- 45-50 mph and slammed into my olde pick-me-up up to the middle of her hood.
Darn...got out, found driver unresponsive & unconscious but w/pulse and passenger flat out hysterically screaming...finished checking out driver for obvious head injuries etc., all the while trying to get her back to consciousness...whew...two passerbys stopped and announced they were retired EMTs...yahoooooo, relieved by announced competent people!
started directing traffic to get rid of the lookie idiots in yellow reflective jacket so emergency vehicles could get in...three fire trucks, one EMT supervisor, 3 NC Troopers in separate vehicles, ambulance, and oh ya the state farm emergency vehicle all trying to arrive at the same time.
while trying to clear the way for the ambulance ~ trying to get traffic out of the inside lane, a fireman hollered that was the state farm's job, so quit...[BTW SF guy is still sitting in their vehicle] getting traffic juggled ambulance rolls in the fireman hollered to get in my vehicle and leave now or he was going to have me arrested... told him no couldn't do that...his nostrils flared walked over and was about to have a significant discussion ~ WHY he hollared at the top of his lungs...and i said cuz my vehicle was involved but let's discuss his attitude with one of the nice state troopers...right now!
then I took off my nice jacket off and everyone saw i was open carrying...troopers told, as required by law i and my bride and the vehicle all had small arms on us and in the truck ~ no problem from the troopers! one did ask why i was so 'heavily' armed...provided explanation..."OH" was his response!
you know the 10 firemen standing around doing nothing even got quiet!
ye olde pick me up is totaled ~ frame is crumpled equally on both sides...sigh! but drivable!
ps: 45 minutes after emergency responce arrived on scene, did the EMT supervisor come up to ask if either my bride or myself required assistance ~ the supervisor and I have a private conversation regarding the responce protocols regarding assuring ALL victims at a scene are evaluated w/results documented ~ formal complaint about the fireman's attitude & EMT lack of care going to community leaders!
