Truth
My case was dismissed April 24. I really was only sitting in my own parked car in my own driveway, no radio, no keys, and my I.D. was in the house. The cop did NOT drive up and block my car in as they might if there was actually a crime occurring. Instead he sneaked up behind my car (3 street lights, open yard, snow to reflect the light) and I saw him coming. He demanded my I.D. The city attorney made up several conflicting stories to try to justify this. No calls from my house or from my neighbors. No funny odors. No drinking. It's the LPD war on Lansing residents, either you follow orders or you pay a fine or pay a lawyer. As to five years ago I was outside my ex-wife's house waiting for her to bring the 12-year-old out. The kid had raised a ruckus and the neighbor called the cops, unknown to me. When I rolled down the window to talk to the police they dragged me from the car and cuffed me and took me to jail leaving the car with the window halfway down. They did not care to hear what was really happening. My lawyer agreed I did not break a law but that the police would lie in court and the judge would take their word over mine since nobody else saw anything and the advice was to plead guilty and pay the fine (same resisting charge as this time) instead of risking more serious penalties. Both times the LPD imagined something was wrong when a simpler explanation was the truth. No way was I opening the window this time!

"I just wanted some quiet time, and came out to sit in my car."
He says he was sitting in his car in his driveway when a police officer walked up and demanded to see his I.D.
"I pretty much ignored him and asked him if it was a slow crime day," Riddle said.
Riddle refused to show his I.D. The officer eventually left, but that's not the end of story. 10 days later, Riddle received a warrant for his arrest. He's been charged with a misdemeanor of resisting an officer. From there, he pled not guilty, went to the pre-trial hearing this week and now he's waiting for a jury trial.
