Maxwell Falls Trail #111
Clear Creek Ranger DistrictHello everybody. Wanted to post some pictures and share a good time. I go for hikes through the wilderness a couple times a week to center myself. This is a nice hike that's not to far from Denver Metro. It's called Maxwell Falls and is very well known locally. There are 2 trail heads, Upper and Lower, as well as a gigantic Cliff Loop trail that connects the two in a lollipop fashion. The trail heads are conveniently located between Evergreen and Conifer/Aspen Park. Easily to find from Highway 285, I-70, Morrison Rd, Colfax. Only 20 minutes from West Denver until you've got your shoes on the ground. National Forest firearms laws provide for lawful discharge with the standard 150 rule, roads/water, etc. I have never discharged my firearm in this area as I've always stayed on trail. I have not witnessed a single other person openly carrying. I seem to be the only one. Very popular trails, though, and nobody minds my weapon at all. Very friendly folks that frequent the trails. There are Dog Leash Laws posted All Over The Place... Nobody leashes their pets. Very sad, because some larger dogs are easily mistaken for sizable predators (Cayotes- Mnt. Lions- etc). There have been No close calls as all of the dogs I have come across are really nice and friendly- with their owners in sight. If you use the Upper Trail Head and round Cliff Loop, expect to be out 10am-2am Total time to drive out, pack in, hang out and pack out, drive home.
