Went into my neighborhood Kroger over the weekend. Standing in the produce section and I see an older guy slinking up on my strong side with a phone in his hands. As I'm grabbing items, the phone slowly comes up and shutter noise goes off.

Hope he's enjoying that shot of my elbow covering most of the gun...

You have to sneak up on unicorns.
Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings again demonstrates his ignorance of the issues, blaming "open carry" (LGOC in this case) for something, anything, to do with the killing of five Dallas police officers. Instead of pointing to this and saying "I guess these guys had it right, bad things can happen In unexpected places."

I was OC all day Saturday and while I did get some glances, no one snuck up on me to take a photo, steal my handgun, or target me during the commission of a crime. Amazing.

Breakfast at Southern Recipe Cafe. Home Depot (4 trips... glad it is close by), Dallas city solid waste transfer station, lunch at the usual place (owned by the same guy as the breakfast place), Seconds and Surplus in Richardson, Carmine's Pizza in Richardson... I'm sure I'm forgetting some places.

I was pretty pleased with the way Rawlings and Brown handled that whole mess until Rawlings started rambling about the evils of OC, which subsequently got picked up by every anti gun and anti OC site in the world from the looks of my news feeds this morning.

perhaps he is a retired MD and wanted photographic proof of your tennis elbow for a study...

isn't it great when they believe they are stealthy...

thanks for sharing...

Down in Houston visiting family in Montrose. OC today at the big Spec's on Smith street - stocked up w port, Stilton and Maduros - at the entrance off-duty Tactical officer did not notice my strong side, so 30 minutes later when checking out he asked to see my CHL then went back to front door. OC at Central Market on Weslayan, HEB on W Alabama, Chase bank on Montrose - no one noticed or said anything. It sure is nice to OC in Texas this summer. Hard to miss a black gun & holster against blue polo shirt...

My Central Markets are posted 30.07. HEB was public about their prohibition. But a thin tshirt stretched tight is still concealment <wink>

I always have to wonder, when working private duty shifts whether they actually have official status. If so, and it's over 40 hours, the agency is probably violating some labor law. That would be like my employer telling me I could moonlight but they have to pick my assignment and I'm not eligible for overtime pay compensation. (I really do understand how that works for them, but it seems like when working for a private employer they should be treated like a private security officer not a police officer.

The HEB here in Houston and Ctl Mkts in Houston/Dallas, and Spec's just post the Notice sign that you must be licensed - neither 30.06 nor 30.07. I take that to be the store/property owner advising you of trespass/arrest on their property if you don't have a CHL when they ask you to produce.

The HEB here in Houston...

Every HEB of which I am aware in the Houston Metro posted valid 30.07 signs at every entrance just prior to January 1, 2016. The signs are/were attached to the bottom half of the sliding entrance doors. I would appreciate a posted photo of said entrance doors, and the corresponding lack of 30.07 posting, if you should get an opportunity to revisit an HEB that does, indeed, lack such signage.

The HEB on Weslayan does have 30.07 - just not visible through dark tinted glass from outside.... Didn't make it back by Central Market.

Why would you WANT to shop at a place that doesn't welcome responsibly armed citizens?

Thanks for the response. I pretty much figured the sign was there.

Since January 1, we've been by (but not in) probably eight or nine HEBs in the Houston metro, each of which had a compliant 30.07 sign, or one close enough that we weren't willing to put it to the test. But as the anti-2A intent is clear, we needed no other motivation to spend our hard-earned dollar elsewhere.

Right now, our grocery budget goes to Walmart, Kroger, or Randall's, none of which have overtly expressed their disdain for the most law-abiding segment of society as exists in Texas. Of course, if that changes, so will our spending habits.

Because the wife's happiness is more important than my trouble untucking. The only other place that sells some things we want is Whole Paycheck and they are hostile to all carry. I expect that after a little time, the signs at CM will come down once they realize that legally carried sidearms are not a problem for anyone.

And, hence, we have yet another illustration of why we are in such a mess as we are, specifically with regard to the Second Amendment, and in general with regard to the Constitution as, for some, the compromising of one's purported principles comes rather easily when the purchase of one's favorite sushi is clearly more important than defending one's Constitutional rights.

And, no, the signs will not come down anywhere until there is an economic incentive to remove them, and so long as sushi remains more important than God-given freedoms, it ain't gonna happen.

I'll admit to being guilty on this front as well. There's a Central Market next door to one of our stores that I'll visit occasionally when I'm working, as I'm already concealed.

Well,,,

"The critical flaw in the system is the obscene notion of 'crime prevention'.
If you are not stopping an actual crime in progress, then any police act to 'prevent crime' is an improper excess of authority exercised against those who are not engaged in criminal acts.
It's a guaranteed death-spiral into totalitarianism. The only way to genuinely prevent all crime is to prevent all unsupervised activity.
It sounds like such a great idea -- who doesn't want to 'prevent crime'?
But in practice, it becomes crimes by the state against non-criminal individuals. A license to dominate, to improperly exercise improper 'authority'."

Im sure youve posted in the wrong thread,, But I have been thinking about this premise.
It is wrong... A beat cop stops crime when he shows up somewhere,
I, you and other open carriers stop crime when criminals notice our guns.
Most times cops and open carriers are never aware of What crime they may have stopped,
because the crime Never happened.
Sometimes cops or armed citizens have to take action to stop a crime that is in progress.,
those we Know about.
None of these actions violate the rights of the innocent citizens or the criminals.

These days I carry open when it suits me and the list of where I've openly carried is long and essentially uneventful. I did get a couple of guys eyeballing my HK at Rusty Taco on Inwood Rd in Dallas. Couldn't decide if they were trying to figure out what I was carrying or if I was up to no good.
The guy working the register at Flying Fish (Preston Center) asked what I was carrying and we had a brief discussion about HK handguns.

As far as CM and compromising my virtue by shopping there, CM management is more likely to listen to customers than outsiders when it comes to these issues. I'm planning to take it up with them after a year or so of uneventful open carry history in the state.
Anyone else notice that Whataburger is NOT posted in some locations?

Ive yet to run into a posted Whataburger in the DFW but its a crap shoot - some are turning a blind eye to OC, some are asking folks to cover up. Im guessing local management is making their own calls, as opposed to the blanket statement they put out last year.

As far as CM, as long as its owned by good ole Liberal as anything Chuckie Butts I'd be surprised if they allow OC. Frankly, I'm pretty confident he's not posting CM 30.06 because he knows he's getting the business that Whole Foods and Sprouts is turning away.

Actually, no they are not. You've already exhibited by your shopping habits that you are completely fine with their anti-2A policies, will continue to patronize them regardless, and couldn't care less about their anti-Constitutional stance, so why would they listen to you?

As I said, until there is a demonstrable economic stake to their detriment, HEB has no incentive whatsoever to change their current policy. And people like you simply reinforce their decision to post 30.07 signs, all the while providing them even less incentive to remove such signs.

Oh, and virtues and principles are not at all equivalent. You may or may not have any redeeming virtues, but when it comes to your Constitutional 2A principles, to me, they appear to be somewhat compromised.

Enjoy your sushi.

Despite the original pre-OC bluster by Whataburger, we have yet to visit any store in the Houston Metro that has posted either a valid or invalid 30.06/30.07 sign.
