Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party win Orange by-election

THE Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party’s first ever lower house MP Philip Donato says he wants to see cooling off periods for firearms purchases removed when people buy their second, third and fourth gun.
Mr Donato also wants changes to the state government’s ammunition bill so not all ammunition purchases have to be reported to the Firearms registry.

But Mr Donato denied claims by Education Minister Adrian Piccoli in the parliament last week that his party was about wholesale changes to John Howard’s national gun laws, including the introduction of assault rifles into Australia.

Mr Donato won the Orange by-election by 50 votes after a full recount yesterday.

It was a devastating 21 per cent swing against the Nationals which saw Troy Grant resign as deputy premier.
