Does anyone know if there are any Illinois counties that have ordinances prohibiting open carry in unincorporated areas?

Also someone asked me if open carry is legal for non-residents or is a FOID card required. I told him I thought it was OK for non-residents, they don't need a FOID.

Junglebob , I am not so sure that it is a Co. ordinance but I have talked to my Co. sheriff and know that he thinks open carry is setup strictly for hunting. I argued with him about this but I don't feel I made any headway with him. I also called a deputy that I grew up with and asked him about carrying while fishing around the sub-impoundment dams on the North end of Rend Lake . he told me I would run into trouble if I did ( arrested ).

I also asked the deputy about openly carrying while rideing a bicycle in the fieldsaway from roads. His response was that it would all depend on who the officer was that might see me.

I do know that the sheriff told me I would be arrested for openly carrying along a road in the country. Told me it had to be in a case when on the road even if I were walking.

By the way.... this is in one of the southern counties... Jefferson , so for anyone thinking you are safe to open carry without hassleor arrest... be vary cautious. Up until 5 years ago I lived in the country my entire life and have open carried every time I went into the woods ( hunting or just out walking ) and have walked a few miles along a road but never met any LEO's while doing so . Many people ( neighbors )have seen me packing though.

I hope this info is of some help to anyone thinking of doing this.

Something I left out of my above post.... the deputy I talked with is totally against the policy stated above. Plus he and i went to school together from grade school through high school and only lived a mile from each other so I know he is telling me the policy as it stands in this county.

If there is no county ordinance prohibiting open carry, it seems to me they are out of bounds making a department policy to arrest people for it. I guess its like some "may issue" states where open carry is legal with a LTC but they'll revolk your carry permit if you do.
