I'd like to now point out that the law regarding Sawed-off shotguns has been repealed (formerly IC 35-47-5-4.1),
which gives people the ability to claim one as a handgun under state law if it's barrel is cut below 16" in length,
providing it's carrier protections under the preemption statute for handguns with a LCH.

Remember; IF YOU CHOOSE TO REDUCE YOUR SHOTGUNS LENGTH OR PURCHASE A SBS, YOU STILL NEED TO REGISTER AND PAY THE $200 TAX UNDER THE NFA!

*MUST have LTCH to carry a firearm with a barrel shorter than 16".

No such luck on SBR being classified as a rifle. I found it in the DNR annual hunting regs on the deer page.

Handguns, other than muzzleloading, must have a barrel at least 4 inches long and must fire a bullet of .243-inch diameter or larger.
The handgun cartridge case, without the bullet, must be at least 1.16 inches long.
Full metal-jacketed bullets are not permitted.
The handgun must not be a rifle that has a barrel less than 18 inches or be designed or redesigned to be fired from the shoulder.

I read through and saw this and didn't give it much thought first time around. I wasn't able to find an actual DNR definition for what is a "rifle."

Do you know where they stated so? What about something similar to a Ruger 22 Charger, but in .357?

I'm pretty sure they just use the federal definition of a rifle.

And if you can find something similar to a Ruger .22 charger in .357 magnum, I'll mortgage one of my kids to buy it.

The quote I posted was from this year's DNR regs. Page 26.

I'll need to dig for one...

apparently you need a minimum of .357 for deer.

The closest thing I've found was a G2 Pistol 12” .357 Magnum 2706, which is interchangeable for rifle to handgun.
Or else you just need to get a .357 Magnum with a huge barrel, and slap a fore stock and scope on top... You know, the hard way. Bipod is a cool little touch...

it doesn't exist. I've been emailing Ruger for years asking them to make a 10/357 rifle.

it's been that way for a long time.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. You can use .357 magnum in either a pistol or a rifle.

A Ruger 77/357 or Marlin 1894C would be just fine.
