Illinois: Anti-Gunner “Wish List” Legislation Introduced

This week, Senate Bill 3659, misnamed the “Illinois Public Safety Act,” was introduced by notorious anti-gun state Senator Dan Kotowski (D-28). SB 3659 seeks to ban the possession, delivery, sale and purchase of many semi-automatic firearms and accessories, as well as .50 caliber rifles and cartridges unless the items have been previously owned and registered within an arbitrary period of time. SB 3659 would also amend the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act to require background checks for private transfers of firearms, except those between family members, and would restrict magazine limits to those with a capacity of 15 rounds and smaller.

SB 3659 embodies the anti-gunner “wish list” in Illinois. This legislation is a comprehensive anti-gun package which echoes the unconstitutional legislation passed in New York and Connecticut last year. The laws passed in those states are currently subject to lawsuits due to their significant infringement on Second Amendment rights.

With the 2014 legislative session winding down, this bill has not yet been assigned to a policy committee. However, we will continue to keep you updated when more information is available on this legislation.

This part sounds exactly like what we got in Colorado last year (and hopefully will see repealed next year after we elect a governor and new reps and senators). So yeah, if at all possible I hope you can "pull a Colorado" on them but I know the situation there may be quite different. Large parts of Illinois are culturally far more hostile to guns than anywhere here (thus in those places a recall would fail because most voters would like what these toads did), and I don't even know if you can recall noxious politicos.

Good luck with your efforts in not having that crap pass.

Luckily it's Kotowski. Fewer and Fewer other legislators pay attentions to his ravings. What makes me wonder is that his constituents keep electing him.

Hey! Remember, this is Illinois!!

If it is south of I-80, it doesn't count! At least, not as far as the powerbrokers in Chicago are concerned!

It is very sad when one messed up, corrupt, fat cat small section of a state can be allowed to dictate how the rest of the state is run...

Hum now heres a thought for ya...
North Dakota, South Dakota...
North Carolina, South.....
How about North Illinois and a South.....

More like Chicago and Illinois; and the people in the rural south would no longer have their taxes used to pay urban welfare.

The bill is presently in committee. Hopefully it will stay there and die. The Chicago area antis come up with some crazy bills. I'll get concerned when I get an email alert to contact my senator, who voted for the concealed carry bill and supported carry before the federal judges ruling that the legislature had 6 months to pass a concealed carry bill.

Just to let everyone know. The bill never came out of committee and the spring legislative session is over. Senator Kitowski the author of the bill will now tell all his anti-gun constituents about it if he is up for reelection and they will feel all warm and fuzzy and vote for him. I never got an alert to contact my state senator or rep about this and so I assumed it was something that was going nowhere.

Sheldon, Your post #7 mentioning about there being a Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois does sound appealing, or just let us become part of Kentucky, it's only about 60 miles from me.
