Congratulations Texas!

https://kniferights.org/legislative...ghts-texas-illegal-knife-repeal-bill-hearing/

HB 1935 eliminates daggers, dirks, stilettos, poniards, swords, spears and most notably, Bowie knives, completely from Texas statute, effectively allowing them to be carried anywhere in the state.
In order to get the bill moved after the tragic UT stabbing just days before the House vote, a minor amendment was added to stipulate that knives with blades over 5 1/2 inches are now defined as “location restricted” knives. These knives may be carried throughout the state except in a narrow list of places such as schools, colleges, correctional facilities, houses of worship, and bars that derive more than 51% of their income from alcohol sales. Minors are also restricted as to when they can carry these knives.

WARNING: the new law does not go into effect until September 1, 2017. Until then, existing restrictions on “illegal knives” remain in pace.

Shows just how far Texas is behind the freedom curve, yet people still believe it's some bastion of liberty.
Could you explain please?
Two years ago, a veteran was arrested for the peaceful open carry of a long arm.
Last year, Texas passed legislation legalizing open carry with a weapons license.
This year, Texas repealed all 'illegal knife' laws.

How exactly is this 'behind the freedom curve'?

Texas sniffed the dog's behind (followed the leaders) with regard to concealed carry, open carry, and can't seem to even get a whiff of unlicensed open carry (which should never ever be confused with actual Constitutional Carry).

With regard to Second Amendment issues, that's a pretty fair example of being behind the "freedom curve."

I moved here from Nevada a year ago and I'm still trying to get use to Texas restrictions. Seems every window has Texas authorized "no firearms" signs up.

They say that everything in Texas is bigger, and in many ways that is true. Firearms restrictions and big fees on everything come to mind. The biggest thing in Texas however is talk.

This is not a firearms friendly state. Not by a long stretch.

"Not every horse in a race can be the first one past the finish line."

Texas may not be first, but they certainly are far from last. I realize that TX may not be 'perfect', but they seem to have made remarkable progress over the last few years compared to the liberal bastions such as New York, California, and Hawaii.

You are comparing apples with rotten fruit.

Texas has improved radically.

That's pretty much my point, Grapeshot. While TX may not be on the bleeding edge of firearms rights, they are in no way being stagnant in the matter. Sniping against our brothers that ARE making progress isn't showing a very cohesive front.

So one need show a license to LEO upon request while out open carrying?. If yes, I would say the legal curve is violated..

Technically you don't need to provide your LTC "just because the LEO asked". They need probable cause to stop and demand. As a practical matter I believe most LEOs are hard headed enough they are going to "see your papers" before they are done. We just have to wear them down over time. I live in Round Rock and officer friendly is generally very friendly and not too pushy.

I hear you Sir... There are many videos on youtube where the law abiding citizen is harassed by the LEOS however said citizen never displays ID, even under threat of arrest.. Having the video rolling is key, standing up for rights is hard when dealing with LEOS that do not agree with the second amendment.. Some of the threats from the LEO will blow your mind.. Their lack of knowledge is beyond ignorance.

Allow me to suggest on youtube, " first amendment audit while open carrying"... Very informative videos and makes one feel empowered on the topic.

alas robin, as has been pointed out to you numerous times over the last several years, your nonsense because someone put a passage about what some individual 2000 +/- years ago said' is a gross misrepresentation of what was stated, what was meant, especially during the period the comment was stated.

Ephesians 6:17 states: "take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." cited whichever good book you like...

and if you don't believe the Book...http://www.gotquestions.org/sword-of-the-Spirit.html
quote:

The sword is both an offensive and defensive weapon used by soldiers or warriors. In this case it is a weapon belonging to the Holy Spirit. Swords were used to protect oneself from harm or to attack the enemy to overcome or kill him. In both cases it was necessary for a soldier to get rigid training on the proper use of the sword to get maximum protection. All Christian soldiers need the same rigid training to know how to properly handle the Sword of the Spirit, “which is the word of God.”

The sword that Paul refers to here is the Holy Scriptures. We know from 2 Timothy 3:16–17 that the word of God is from the Holy Spirit and written by men. Since every Christian is on the spiritual battle with the satanic and evil forces of this world, we need to know how to handle the Word properly. Only then will it be an effective defense against evil, but it will also be an offensive weapon we use to “demolish strongholds” of error and falsehood (2 Corinthians 10:4–5) unquote

more about the sword in the article cited.

to state those souls lost in today's church massacre would have been able to defend themselves with the 'word of God' sword is an incredibly ignorant and heartless commentary.

In years past

http://gunwatch.blogspot.com/2017/11/the-state-of-concealed-and-open-carry.html

In the early colonies, people were sometimes required to be armed at church. In "Origins and Development of the Second Amendment", I found a reference to colonial requirements to carry guns in church from the Virginia laws of arms bearing.

All men that are fitting to bear arms, shall bring their pieces to the church...
The law dated to 1631. David Hardy found it in the 1823 work by William Henning, "The Statutes at large, being a collection of all the laws of Virginia, Vol. 1 at 127, 173-174."
