That is not OC. Depending on the jurisdiction, that could be "brandish" or the equivalent.

Yeah, his behavior normalizes the sight of a lawfully carried firearm. :eyeroll:

Oh, I agree totally, but these are the types of idiots that made their statement by carrying into SB. Can you imagine the reaction anywhere if you walked around with a handgun in your hand?

Yea, look at me I have a gun, someday I may go shoot it, and maybe buy a sling to carry it, but for now, look at me, I'm a bad azz with a gun.

I don't blame Star Bucks.

I blame them. They should have banned idiots behaving like the man in the photo, not folks with properly holstered handguns. They were anti from the start, and these bozos just gave them an excuse to "ask" that no one carries in their stores.

Idiots like the CEO of SBX, and the idiots who make stupid assumptions with no basis in fact are antis. Unfortunately there are one or two of these hoplophobes idiots that claim to be pro gun.

Howard has sold himself upon this image of catering to a certain....more socialist crowd...yet when Seattle citizens refused his demand to have money stolen from them to build this billionaire a stadium for his millionaires to play in, he punished them by selling their beloved team to another state. I think that was his plan all along, but he just didn't want to look like "greedy capitalist".

Howard is one more in a long line of limousine liberals, supporting liberal causes, and spending money on liberal politicians so as to have carved out of liberal laws exemptions for he and his.

I would call someone carrying an AR into SB just to make a point (and causing the rest of us carriers to be deemed unwelcome) a buffoon.

They did something they thought would help the cause. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence would know that it would hurt the cause. It did hurt the cause. Buffoonery by buffoons.

EYE i thought it was your goal to call someone an ASS, as soon as possible

but seriously, am i missing something? didn't the letter say they were not stopping people from carrying in their stores, but that they just discourage it?

I try (not 100% successfully) not to call folks I am talking to asses. I do, however, waste no time informing them when they are behaving like an ass. In your first sentence, sir, you are behaving like an ass.

Their letter very specifically asks that folks not carry in their stores. They promise not to call the cops on you, but that is an unenforceable promise. Kinda like when Oberlin, OH did not want to repeal their ordinance against carry in the city parks. They just promised never to enforce it.

Im in memphis TN and my whole foods isnt posted. My wife and i walked through this weekend to get something for her and i was OCing the whole time. a few hippies glared at me but that was it. There were also two security guards and neither even noticed.

Your are a fortunate one. The Whole Foods where I used to shop in Baton Rouge has signs posted at each entrance, "No Firearms", therefore, I quit shopping at Whole Foods. On the bright side, I went to Cabela's today to purchase a holster for my son. I was OC and the greeter told me to keep the weapon holstered and if I need to take it out to see if an accessory would work with the gun bring it up front and they would check it in for me. They were very courteous. Kinda like a breath of fresh air, "Hi, how ya doin? Just a reminder to keep your weapon holstered!"

That Cabelas had some problems early on including once when they told our Treasurer (of La Open Carry Awareness League) he couldn't OC in their store. A quick phone call to corporate and things were set right and he was welcomed back and even got a gift card as an apology for the misunderstanding.

Well I am an avid open carrier these days so I guess I am not welcome there. If they don't want the free security, that's on them. It's more fun to chill at New Mexico gas stations anyway and the coffee is cheaper.

That been said, I appreciate them not being too agenda/political based on the decision.

bass pro does the same thing, at least the one in auburn hills does. they have a firing range there. i walk in OC all the time and go right back to the gun counter. buy a few boxes of ammo and head upstairs. never had any issues with OC while there, the old men who usually greet you just remind you to keep it holstered

I'm sure someone has already said it, but I'll say it again. Starbucks doesn't really care one way or the other. In the beginning of the "great 2012 gun debate" both sides, pro-gun and anti-gun inquired with several companies of "where they stood." Starbucks said "we don't care if our customers have guns in our stores." Then the anti-gunners got into a big uproar and threatened to boycott Starbucks over this. So Starbucks came back and said "we ask that you don't bring a gun in but if you do,whatever." And now the pro-gunners are raising hell. It should be obvious that the only thing Starbucks really cares about is selling coffee. I don't believe they ever wanted to get political..they were drafted. Ps. I've never had a Starbucks coffee and don't care if I ever do.

That is seriously NOT the thing to do in public.
In fairness though, I don't know the story behind the picture.
One commentary said he's a soldier overseas (they have SBX?), so in context it's not threatening or abnormal.

The last time I was at our local Cabela's the greeter saw the OC pistol & asked if it was going to remain holstered.
The look on his face when I said, "yes, of course, both of them will" was interesting.
They're only telling OCers "we think you're stupid enough to do something dangerous". :p

Back to the original topic, I have an ethical question.
I won't spend my own money at a SBX, but have been given a gift card.
Do I use it (cc), sell it, give it to a beggar...?

Just found this on the HighRoad regarding the picture:

"I find it ironic that the same photo is also posted several times with the caption "This is why we can't have nice things!". Since that is a Sailor, serving his country half way around the world, either on his way to or from a combat zone, I feel the more appropriate caption would be "This is why we CAN have nice things in America!"

Well, it technically is not your "money." It is someone else's money.....technically. If you like SBX coffee get a SBX coffee via a drive thru window.

The money is already in Starbucks' hands. Starbucks benefits if the card is NOT used. Give it to some flea-infested, smelly, unbathed, and soiled bum with the instruction that he must enjoy whatever he buys with the card inside, during the morning rush, for at least an hour.

Who will probably sell it on the street for less that face value to buy himself something more to his liking.....if he can find himself someone willing to chance that the card is still loaded.

OTOH - the SBX card might make a nice Christmas gift to someone who just can't resist the need for regular fuel at premium prices. At least it is not a 7 yo fruit cake still making the rounds.
